Shelby Louise Lasley Hughes, age 76, passed at her home on Monday, February 4, 2013. Mrs. Hughes was born and raised in Lebanon, VA and moved to Abingdon with her husband as a young adult. Shelby loved to read, watch western movies and cook big meals for folks. She was a member of Washington Chapel United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Hughes is preceded in death by her parents, James William and Bessie Lee Bussey Lasley; sister, Ruth Mannion; and four brothers, Paul, William, Samuel and Raymond Lasley.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Kenneth Hughes; daughter, Ruth Anne Wirt of Abingdon, VA; son, Chuck (Tina) Hughes of Summerville, SC; three brothers, Jake (Mary Jo) Lasley of Indianapolis, IN; Don (Billie) Lasley of Lebanon, VA; and Howard (Stella) Lasley of Lebanon, VA; and four grandchildren, Suzanne Wirt, Charlie Hughes, Andy Wirt, and Quinton Hughes.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Larry Lusk officiating. Visitation with the family will be held at the funeral home from 5:00 -7:00 P.M. just prior to the service.
A committal service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Those who wish to travel in procession to the cemetery are asked to gather at the funeral home by 1:30 P.M.
