Sherry Evans DeBord Nipper

Abingdon, VA Sherry Evans DeBord Nipper, age 55, was carried away peacefully into Heaven by the arms of her Savior on Sunday, February 28, 2016, at her home. Sherry was raised in Chilhowie, VA and graduated from Chilhowie High School in 1978. Mrs. Nipper earned a Masters Degree from Emory Henry College and retired after serving 24 years as an educator with Washington County and Smyth County Public Schools. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where she was a prayer warrior for her family and friends and a faithful witness for her Savior Jesus Christ to all those she met. Sherry was a beloved wife, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, and a friend to all she met. She is preceded in death by her first husband, James L. DeBord, Jr.Sherry is survived by her husband, Roger Nipper; parents, Glen and Bessie Olinger Evans of Chilhowie, VA; sister, Susan Price of Rural Retreat, VA; brothers, Jeff Evans and wife Angie of Marion, VA and Tim Evans and wife Debbie of Abingdon, VA; step daughter, Laura Weiss and husband Keith of Navarre, FL; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.Visitation with the family will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016, at St. John Lutheran Church. A celebration of life will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor G. Scott Homesley and Dr. Bob Neace officiating. A graveside committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Mt. Rose Cemetery with Rick Boyd, Allen Carrico, Ralph Davis, Jonathan Evans, Brian Tomlinson, and Keith Weiss serving as pallbearers.The family would like to extend special thanks to Mrs. Nippers caregivers Andrea Tomlinson, Kelly Privett, Kari Fields, Amber Nichols, Connie White, Jacqui Pile, Zetta Mullins, and Monica Dishman.In lieu of flowers memorial contribuitons may be made to the St. John Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 807 East Main Street, Abingdon, VA 24210, in Mrs. Nippers name.
