Abingdon, VA - Shirley June Grubb Landreth completed the final chapter of her ‘Journey of Life on Earth’ on Thursday, April 2, 2015. Jesus greeted her with open arms as one of His angels that made the journey to Heaven’s Gate. She is now enjoying the ‘Spiritual Journey of Life in Heaven’ with the Love of her life, her husband of 54 years, Donald C. Landreth, Sr., who preceded her on his ‘Spiritual Journey of Life in Heaven’ in December of 2009. Shirley is survived by son, Mark Lee Landreth and wife Karen of Mooresville, NC, granddaughter Kasey Erinn Landreth of University of Tennessee; son Donald Clyde Landreth, Jr. of Catawba, VA; grandson, Andrew Clay Landreth of Coastal Carolina University; granddaughter Taylor Marie Landreth of Catawba, VA. She is also survived by one brother Wilmer Lee Grubb of Abingdon, VA., thirteen nephews and nieces and several cousins who were all very special, much loved and a very supportive and important part of her life. Family was second only to God in her life. She lived everyday of her life based on Faith, Hope and Love, but the greatest was Love. One of most cherished times of the year was the annual Grubb reunion which she has hosted at her home for many years. She was also predeceased by her parents, Ray C. Grubb and Bernice Farris Grubb, sisters Ruth Grubb Moore and Beatrice Grubb Regan. Shirley spent the last chapters of her journey of life giving in the form of Faith, Hope and Love. She was a member of Abingdon United Methodist Church, Abingdon United Methodist Women, and past President and member of the Johnston Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Board. She was an active volunteer and held various offices with several local community and charitable organizations. She was a graduate of Greendale High School and Whitney School of Business. Shirley had been an employee of Meade Corporation, Kingsport TN, Kingsport School System, Appalachian Power Company; Abingdon, VA, where she met her future husband, and later was employed by and retired in 1995 from the Washington County School System. Her sons Mark and Clyde and their families will honor Shirley’s friends from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2015 at Abingdon United Methodist Church. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at the church with Rev. Robert Countiss and Rev. Clarence Dishman officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Greg Thompson, Robert Brown, Joel Fuller, Dale Grubb, David Landreth, Richard Landreth, Justin Landreth, Wes McCall, Jason Knebel, and Kamal Mohanty serving as pallbearers.
