Sidney Lloyd Burden, Jr., 69, passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at Wellmont Hospice House. He was a retired coal miner and a U.S. Army Veteran. Sidney was a member of Highlands Fellowship Church. Sid took pride in his 1981 Corvette and entered it into many car shows. He was also a wood carver, and he had many of his works displayed at the Holston Mountain Artisans Guild.
Sid was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney L. Burden, Sr. and Ivaline Johnson Burden. He survived by his wife Regena; sons Steven L. Burden and wife Amanda of Abingdon, and Jason M. Burden and wife Kristie of Red Oak, N.C.; brother Mike Burden and wife Eleanor of Pensacola, Fla.; grandchildren Ethan, Laklynn, Kailey, and Kasey; and his fur baby Heidi.
A visitation will be held at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service on Friday, April 20, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Forest Hills Memory Gardens, with Arlie Boyd providing scripture. Military rites will be performed by the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asking to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 a.m.
