Stephen Gray "Steve" Reed

Stephen Gray “Steve” Reed, age 70, of Abingdon, Va., went to be with the Lord, on December 5, 2021, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born on April 19, 1951, in Tazewell, Va., to the late Caroline Gray Reed.

Steve retired as a lieutenant with the Prince William County Police Department. He also retired from the Washington County Police Department as a domestic violence detective on July 1, 2021, which concluded a 49-year career in law enforcement. He was currently employed as the Marcus Alert Regional Coordinator with Highlands Community Services. Steve was the District Deputy Grand Master for the 44th Masonic District and a member of the York Masonic Lodge and replied to #12 A.F. and A.M. while giving last Masonic Rites. Steve was an amazing man who had a deep love for his wife and son.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lavada and James Richmond Reed; and several aunts and uncles.

He is survived by the love of his life and wife for the last 22 years, Sharon Kay Stevens Reed; his beloved and adored son, Richmond Gray Reed; his half-brother, Johnny Morales; his cousin, Jim Benson; a very special aunt, Peggy Reed; and a very special uncle, John “Bug” Benson; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Faye and Clarence Stevens; his brother-in-law, Mark Stevens and his wife, Becky; his sister-in-law, Karen Taylor and her husband, Wade; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at Grace Fellowship, with Pastor Yul Miller officiating. A committal service will follow the celebration of life in Holston Conference Cemetery with Pastor Yul Miller officiating. Richmond Reed, Brad Roop, Mark Stevens, Jamie Blevins, Wayde Taylor, and Byron Ashbrook will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, Highlands Community Social Service Board, Paige Surface, Elizabeth Bruzzo, Judy Clark, Robin Widener, and Donna Sutherland. A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2021, from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Grace Fellowship, located at 163 Chrysler Drive, Lebanon, Va. 24266. Interment will follow the celebration of life in Holston Conference Cemetery, located at 30461 Garnand Drive Emory, Va., 24327. Those wishing to join the family for the committal service are kindly asked to travel in the procession from Grace Fellowship.
