Stephen W. Morris

Dateline: Bristol, Va.- Stephen W. Morris, age 64, of Bristol, Va., passed away on Friday, November 6, 2015, after a brief illness. Steve grew up in Nicholas County, W.Va., and graduated from Richwood High School in 1969. Following graduation from Shepherd College, Steve began a long and successful career in natural resources. Steve was an executive with the Pittston Coal Company for many years and later was an independent businessman involved in many ventures including coal, gas, and timber projects. Steve’s business acumen was matched only by his social skills. He made many friends in West Virginia, Virginia, and Florida over the years that will miss his smile, hearty greetings, and excellent company. He was preceded in death by his parents, Audrey Carl Morris and Dorene Scott Morris; and brother, Michael Morris. Steve is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; son, Christopher Morris and wife Jennifer of Charleston, W.Va.; two step-daughters, Christine Higgins and husband James of Leesburg, Va. and Ellen Rost of Ashburn, Va.; brother, Richard Morris and wife Karen of Fallston, Md.; four grandchildren, Jackson and Jeb Morris and Olivia and Elizabeth Higgins; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by numerous golfing buddies, and special fishing buddy, Jerry Jessee. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Monday, November 9, 2015, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, Va. 24210. A funeral ceremony will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Forest Hills Chapel with the Rev. Greg Alderman officiating. A private committal service will be held at Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
