Teddy (Ted) Mack Latham, 70, of Bristol, Va., died peacefully at home on Monday, June 25, 2018 after a bravely fought battle with cancer. Ted was the youngest child of William Jennings Bryan (Ray) and Wilmetta Combs Latham of the Halls Bottom Community in Washington County, Va.
Ted graduated from John Battle High School, Hiwassee College and East Tennessee State University. He was manager of the Winn Dixie stores in Elizabethton, Tenn. and Bristol, Tenn. The past sixteen years he had worked as a retail district manager for SellEthics Marketing Group out of Charlotte, N.C.
Ted was a devoted Christian and grew up as a member of the High Point Presbyterian Church. Later in life he became a member of the Central Baptist Church in Abingdon, Va. where he was active in the men’s Sunday School class.
Ted was known for his big smile, friendly nature and kindness. He also had a great love of baseball and had been a fan of the Dodgers all his life. He valued his friends, and in the final year of his life he treasured his visits and time spent with his Cleveland Elementary classmates.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings: Robert Latham, Lena Frye, Carolyn Joyce Latham and Daniel Latham. He is survived by his sister, Peggy Semancik (Stephen) and brother, William Wayne Latham. Ted is also survived by many nephews, nieces and cousins who dearly loved him. He recently became a great-great uncle when William Wagner was born.
In the last weeks of his life, Ted wanted his friends and family to assist in his caregiving. So many people honored this request. The family wants to especially thank Doug and Yvonne Johnson, Betty and Don Stewart, Dawn Hammons, Nina Sullivan, Tara and Cathy Frye, Fran Hagy, Les and Lois Ketron, Maria Wagner, Wayne Strong, Connie McSheehy, Gary Humphreys and Susan Lowry. They also want to thank their many prayer warriors.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 28, at Central Baptist Church, 24461 Mock Knob Rd., Abingdon, VA 24211, conducted by Rev. Les Ketron and Rev. Kenneth Grindstaff. Burial will follow at High Point Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mark Frye, Steve Wagner, Jessie Musick, Doug Johnson, Ron Caudill, Gary Humphreys, Eric Frye, Preston Price and Lynn Sproles. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Stewart, J. H. Combs, and Wayne Strong.
