Thelma Anne Alexander Cannon, age 90, entered heaven on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at Valley Health Care, Chilhowie, Va. She was born into a large family and raised a large family. Thelma knew that her purpose on earth was to raise and care for babies. She had all the traits of a Proverbs 31 woman, as according to her children, she was Godly, ornery when necessary, filled with joy and loved everyone. As a homemaker, the home was filled with love and there was always a good meal. Thelma was famous for her chicken and dumplings.
She was predeceased by her husband Harley Cannon, parents John Henry and Mary Kimberlin Alexander, 6 children James and Birtie Cannon, Lamuel Cannon, Ollie and Freddie Thomas, Rosa and Kermit Salyers, Wayne Cannon, Bobby Joe Cannon, and son-in-law Garland Caywood.
Thelma is survived by her children Charley Avery Cannon, David Ray Cannon and wife Kristie, Timmy Dean Cannon and wife Jessica, Linda Ann Steffey and husband Sam, Brenda Caywood and Phyllis Jessee and husband Conrad, brothers Clyde Alexander and wife Debbie, Lloyd Alexander and wife Carolyn, Ralph Alexander and wife Brenda, and Dan Alexander, sister Shirley Hurd and husband Marvin. “Hey, sweet lady Granny has 34 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren and 25 great great grandchildren. I counted up over the years of Granny raising this family there have been a total of 199 in our family. Wow, this lady raised a village for sure!”
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 28, 2022 at the funeral home with Pastor Kenneth Poston and Aaron Kell officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Rose Cemetery, Glade Spring, Va. where Dillon Holmes, Garron Minton, Gevin Minton, Mason Steffey, Travis Woods, Aaron Kell, Logan Cook and Allan Hay will serve as pallbearers.
