Thelma Wimmer Henderson

Thelma Wimmer Henderson, age 95, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Henderson was a lifelong resident of Washington County Virginia. She was a graduate of Emory & Henry College and obtained her graduate degree from ETSU. Mrs. Henderson will be remembered as a tireless teacher and principal at Hayter's Gap Elementary School. She was a member of the East Bristol Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and was active in Women's Mission Union. Mrs. Henderson often spoke with joy when remembering the foreign mission trips in which she participated.

Mrs. Henderson was the widow of Fount Henderson. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank O. and Sarah Edmondson Wimmer, as well as by her brothers Bill (Anna) and Jabo (Pearl) Wimmer; sister Frances (Carl) Ferguson; and brother-in-law Ron McCulloch.

Thelma is survived by her son, Harry (Lora) Henderson of Ridgeway, VA; daughters Hallie (Lincoln) Chafin of Bristol, VA and Willie (John) Carrier of Palm Bay, FL. A sister, Mary Katherine McCulloch of Vass, NC also survives.

Funeral services for Mrs. Thelma Henderson will be conducted on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at 3:00 pm in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Dan Birchfield and Rev. John Carrier officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm 3:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home prior to the service.
