Tommy Looney, age 67, passed on Friday, March 7, 2014, at his home. Tommy was born, raised, and worked in Buchanan County, VA before moving his family to Abingdon, VA in 1996. He was a coal miner for 45 years and a member of Highlands Fellowship Church.
Tommy is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Muncey Looney and Vinia Matney Looney; brothers, Earl and Starlin Looney; sister, Bonnie Thacker; niece, Kim Looney; and brother-in-law, Jim Keen.
He leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Carol Ann Looney; two daughters, Leslie Ann Looney of Abingdon, VA and Lara Lea Strebeck and Fiancee Jason Burson of Abingdon, VA; grandchildren, Jaila Victoria Strebeck and Erelah Annslea Looney; brother, Junior Looney and wife Bobbie of Vansant, VA; sisters, Jean Keen of Vansant, VA and Ellen Kistner and husband Keith of Bristol, TN;; brother-in-law, Bill Thacker of Vansant, VA; sister-in-law, Peggy Looney of Vansant, VA; and several nieces and nephews
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, March 10, 2014, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor John Stapleton officiating. Visitation with the family will be held 5-7 p.m. just prior to the service.
A committal service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Mt. View Methodist Church Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Family and friends wishing to travel in procession to the cemetery are asked to meet at the funeral home between 12:00-12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
