Trever C. Counts, age 89, of Abingdon, Va., completed his Earthly life surrounded by his family and went to his heavenly home on Saturday, March 9, 2019. He lived a Godly life evidenced by his commitment to God, his wife of 66 years, his family, his church family, and all he met. Trever relocated from Marion in 1972, where he served as a Trustee and Sunday school teacher at the Marion Church of the Nazarene. He continued to serve God as a founding member of the Abingdon Church of the Nazarene where he served on the church board for many years. Trever was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served in the Korean War. He retired as Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds for Virginia Highlands Community College.
Trever was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin Arthur Counts and Mary Margaret Puckett Counts. He is survived by his wife, Rubye Dillman Counts; son, James Clifton Counts of Abingdon; daughter, Teresa Tignor and husband, Jimmy, of Abingdon; sister, Ruth Wegenhoft of San Marcos, Texas; five grandchildren, Jennifer Tignor Heath, Jason Tignor, Callie Counts, Nolan Counts, and Luci Counts; great grandson, Jacob Heath; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral ceremony will be held at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Wayne Wilson, Pastor Mark Copley, and Pastor Lee Schnelle officiating. A committal service will be held in the mausoleum of Knollkreg Memorial Park on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. where military honors will be provided by the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the United States Air Force. Pallbearers will be Bobby Haulsee, Michael Henley, Brendan McSheehy, Jr., Chuck Puckett, Joe Puckett, and Gary Smythe. Honorary pallbearers will be Rusty Belcher, Elmer Bobo, Howard Chitwood, Al Copley, and Junior Pugh. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m prior to the service.
