Abingdon, VA Ulysses Samuel Altizer, age 88, passed on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Samuel was born in Bishop, VA to the late Samuel Walter Altizer and Essie Altizer and was raised in Keen Mountain, VA. Mr. Altizer served in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the U.S.S. Walton. He lived in Elkton, MD for 27 years before moving to Abingdon in 1987, where he attended Greendale Chapel. In addition to his parents, Samuel is preceded in death by his wife, Joy Wallace Altizer; son, Michael Altizer; two brothers, Noah Willis Altizer and Wade Altizer; three sisters, Tootsie Matney, Aileen Brown, and Peggy Webb. He is survived by two sisters, Joanne Johnson of Keen Mountain, VA and Molly Jane Coleman, of Deel, VA; granddaughter, Michelle Hendricks; great-grandchildren, Heather and Hunter Hendricks; special friend, Billie Moretz; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Friday, May 2, 2014, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Rev. Jerry Eggers officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Military Rites will be conducted by the Virginia National Guard. Visitation with the family will be held 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. just prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Buchanan County Humane Society, P.O.
