Vecie P. Horton Williams, age 89 of the Black Hollow Community, went home to be with her Lord in Glory on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at her home. Born June 29, 1924 in Ronda, NC, she was the late daughter Emmett and Beatrice Burchette Horton.
Vecie lived in Darlington, MD before moving to Abingdon. She was a devoted wife and mother and the most Godly example of a woman someone could be. Her life's desire was to serve the Lord and be a light to the world. Her greatest joy was being in church and being with her church family.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Sue Rowland; son, Gerald Williams, Jr.; two grandsons, James Rowland and Brian Williams; two brothers, Bobby Horton and William E. Horton, Jr.; and four sisters, Vera Horton, Vena Reeves, Violet Sue Young, and Vivian Eagles.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald Williams; nine children, David Williams and wife Jan of Darlington, MD, Wanda E. Rowland and husband James of Palmer, AK, Nancy Barber and husband Calvin of Gbg., PA, Wilmer Rowland and wife Hazel of Abingdon, VA, Sandra Shortridge of Tupelo, MS, John Williams and wife Darlene of Coats, NC, Tom Williams and wife Connie of Bristol, VA, Naomi Rowland and husband Jerry of Palmer, AK, Michele Loftis and husband Danny of Savannah, GA; 25 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 10, 2013, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Ronald Matney officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
