Velma B. Hamilton McCollum, 98, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2010 in Lawnside, NJ.
She was born March 17, 1912 in Greeneville, TN and was a daughter of the late Thomas and Meade Forby Hamilton. She was a member of Charles Wesley United Methodist Church in Abingdon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Rufus McCollum, Sr.; two brothers, Carter Hamilton and James "J.C." Hamilton and two sisters, Josephine Eason and Willie Snapp.
Survivors are her sons, Rufus McCollum, Jr. and wife, Betty of O'Fallon, IL and James McCollum and wife, Linda of Lawndale, CA; daughters, Jewel Glispie of Fort Mill, SC and Marie English and husband, Gregory of Lawnside, NJ; sisters, Ruth Burks of Detroit, MI and Margaret Turner of Newark, NJ; grandchildren, Keith Glispie, Lanee Koczur and husband, Lamont, Darryl Glispie, Todd McCollum and wife, Jean, Mark McCollum and wife, Crystal, Thurman Brooks and wife, Jan; Jeri Brooks, Quentin McCollum, Tiffany McCollum, Marcel, Maurice, Gemarr, Germaine Galisa, Monica Blair and Alexis English.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Charles Wesley United Methodist Church, 322 E. Main St. Abingdon, VA with Rev. Robert Kariuki officiating. Interment will follow at High Point Cemetery in Abingdon.
Pallbearers will be relatives and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Members of Charles Wesley; Lemuel Wheeler, Louis Gillenwater, John Sheffey, James Anderson, III, Kelvin Medley; and friends, Harry Wright and Ted Acrey.
The family will receive friends at Farris Funeral Service, 427 E. Main St. Abingdon, VA from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Friday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Charles Wesley United Methodist Church or High Point Community Cemetery Fund.
