Velma J. Blackburn, 96, formerly of Glade Spring, VA passed away Friday, January 15, 2010 in Knoxville.
She was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and had been a school teacher in Alexandria, VA before retiring in 1975. Upon retirement she returned to Glade Spring where she lived until 1993 when she moved to Knoxville. She was of the Presbyterian faith and was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Glade Spring.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Austin and Lora Tuell and brothers, Al and Clifford Tuell.
Survivors are her sons, Gary Blackburn of Knoxville and Bob Blackburn and wife, Sharli of Atlanta, GA; her granddaughter, Martha Blackburn; brother, Paul Tuell and wife, Betty Jo of Abingdon; sister, Anne Lemieux of Lake Worth, FL and sister-in-law, Mable Tuell of Glade Spring.
Funeral services will be conducted at the graveside at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at Old Glade Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Glade Spring with the Pastor of Erin Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, John Stuart officiating. Interment will follow. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery.
