Vergie Estelle Deel Singleton

Abingdon, VA – Vergie Estelle Deel Singleton, age 91, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was born to the late Melvin Deel and Delphie O’Quinn Deel on June 18, 1923. Vergie was married to the late Robert Campbell Singleton, Sr. who owned Singleton’s Discount Stores in Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina, but above all she was a homemaker who loved her family. She was of the Christian faith and was a 35 year member of the Abingdon Eastern Star Chapter No. 182. In addition to her parents and husband, Vergie was also preceded in death by her brother, Adam Deel, and sister, Lucy Ellerbee. Vergie is survived by four children: Robert Campbell Singleton, Jr. and wife Lynn of Casselberry, FL; Rita Singleton Mink and husband Bill of Abingdon, VA; Rick Singleton and wife Stacy of Abingdon, VA; Becky Singleton Arnold and husband Tim of Bristol, VA; step-son, Bobby Gerald Singleton of Ft. Laramie, WY; sister, Kathleen Viers of Tipp City, OH; sister-in-law, Ethel McCumber of Dayton, OH; 9 grandchildren, Robert Campbell Singleton III and wife Debbie, Jennifer Watson and husband Todd, Mandy Dye and husband Eric, Ron Mink and wife Tore, Travis Singleton and wife Carolyn, Jessica Barr and husband Michael, Robert Cory Singleton and Katie, Alexis Singleton, and Rodney Arnold and wife Harrison; 17 great grandchildren, Kendall Singleton, Robert Campbell Singleton IV, Savannah Singleton, Reese and Will Watson, Spencer and Abby Dye, Kenzie Mink, Bailey Hahn, Kamryn DeBusk, Marlee Singleton, Kara Barger, Luke and Owen Barr, Nolan Singleton, Mariclaire and Aaron Arnold; and several special nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service where the Abingdon Chapter of the Eastern Star will perform their ceremony. A funeral ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 20th at the funeral home with Vergie’s grandson, Pastor Rodney Arnold, and the Reverend Bob Neace officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Rose Cemetery where Spencer Dye, Ron Mink, Barry Owens, Robert Campbell Singleton III, Robert Campbell Singleton IV, Robert Cory Singleton, Travis Singleton, and John Willis will serve as pallbearers. Ralph Lester, Mike Moore (who she thought of as one of her own), Dewey Singleton, and Jack Viers will serve as honorary pallbearers.
