Vertie Adair Osborne Lester

Vertie Adair Osborne Lester, age 83, of Abingdon, Va. and formerly of Grundy, Va., went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 20, 2017, at her home. She was born November 28, 1933, to the late Vady Osborne and Nancy Catherine Runyon Osborne in Grundy, Va. She was a member of the Abingdon Church of Christ and retired from Sears after 17 years. She was an accomplished seamstress who enjoyed reading, gardening, and spending time outdoors.

In addition to her parents, Vertie was also preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Judas “Jude” Lester; two brothers, Ledford Burbank Osborne and Ray Keister Osborne; sister, Ruby Osborne Lester; and son-in-law, Rick Allen Lee.

She is survived by four children, Shirley Lynn Lester Lee and fiancé, John Thomas, of Abingdon, Va.; Brenda Kay Lester Estep and husband, Jackie, of Abingdon, Va.; Jeffrey Lee Lester and fiancée, Kathy Bush, of Richmond, Va.; and Teresa Anne Lester Matney and husband, Ronald, of Abingdon, Va.; four brothers: Curtis Laden Osborne and wife, Elaine; Aaron Fred Osborne and wife, June; Paul Daniel Osborne and wife, Juanita; and Rura Edison Osborne, all of Grundy, Va.; two grandsons, Michael Todd Estep and wife, Amanda, and Lee Derrick Estep both of Abingdon, Va.; great granddaughter, Rowin Caroline Estep; special niece, Peggy Sue Lester Goble and husband, Don, of Abingdon, Va.

A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, October 23, 2017, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Evangelist Dennis Wimmer officiating. A committal service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at Mountain Valley Memorial Park where Derick Estep, Jack Estep, Todd Estep, Ron Matney, Dean Tate, and John Thomas will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Monday prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011.
