Virgil L. Bailey, 91, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at his home.
He was a faithful soldier of God and a prayer warrior for all lost and hurting souls. He was a faithful member of Spoon Gap Freewill Baptist Church for many years. He loved God and God's children and all those he prayed would become children of God. He loved his wife and children and was loved by them. Mr. Bailey also served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harrison and Gay Bailey; four brothers, Dewey, Vertsie, Chester and J.B.; two sisters, Nellie Saltz and husband, Harold and Bertha Moore and husband, Jimmy; sons-in-law, Ellis Flanagan and Rev. Gene Lowe and one granddaughter, Samantha Bailey.
Survivors are his loving wife of 69 years, Mamie Ruth Bailey; daughters, Madeline Harrington and husband, Willis of Marion, VA, Frances Flanagan and Linda Lowe, both of Abingdon; three sons, Herbert Bailey and wife, Pat, Don Bailey and wife, Brenda and Barry Bailey and wife, Beverly all of Abingdon; two sisters, Pansy Mitchel and husband, Roy of Covington, GA and Christine Forbes and husband, Eddie of Mountain City, TN; granddaughters, Kim Harris, Andrea Harless, Heather Walters and Kelly Statzer; grandsons, Chad Bailey, Greg Bailey, Brad Bailey and Eric Bailey; eleven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Spoon Gap Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Herbert Bailey and Rev. Eddie Gobble officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Chad Bailey, Greg Bailey, Brad Bailey, Eric Bailey, Josh Statzer, Steve Harris, Paul Harless and Jeff Walters.
The family will receive friends at Farris Funeral Service from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Friday.
