Abingdon, Va.
Virginia Kathryn Ferguson Stevens went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 7, 2018 at her home. Kathryn was born July 3, 1920, the only child of the late Dollye Crosswhite Ferguson and Andrew R. Ferguson. Kathryn was a life-long resident of Washington County and grew up on a farm in the Meadowview area. She attended Yellow Spring Elementary School and graduated from Meadowview High School in 1940. She later attended Washington County Technical School taking classes in accounting.
Kathryn worked at Parks Belk Department Store for a number of years and later worked at the Washington County ASCS office as AA&MO program clerk. After working for several years, she decided she would rather be a homemaker and do some volunteer work, including soliciting funds for the Heart Fund, American Cancer Society, and the United Way. She was very active in the Yellow Spring Extension Home Maker Club.
Kathryn had a good life visiting friends and neighbors and enjoyed working in her flowers every spring. She was a member of Greendale Chapel, and she loved and appreciated her Pastor and Church Family very much. Thanks to the good Lord she was blessed in so many ways.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband of 62 years, Dan Graham Stevens, the former Treasurer of Washington County, Virginia. Kathryn is survived by cousins, good neighbors, friends, and her Greendale Chapel Church family.
The funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, September 10, 2018 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Jerry A. Eggers and Pastor Tim Stevens officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until time for the service. Burial will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park.
