Virginia Lillias Elswick Kidd passed away Friday, April 13, 2012 at the age of 96.
Born in Tazewell County, she lived most of her life in Bastian, Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Kidd, Sr.; her father and mother, Hobart and Ella Elswick; her sister Livisa; and two brothers, Ken and Garrett Elswick.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Belva and Ed Tiller of Durham, NC, and son and daughter-in-law Rev. Ralph and Carolyn Kidd of Abingdon, VA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jim Tiller and his wife, Sharon; Jon Tiller and his wife, Dana; Caty Kidd; Tyler Kidd and his wife, Margaret; and Troy Kidd and his wife, Carey. Lillias had three great-grandchildren, Blake, Adam and Alex Tiller.
Lillias graduated from Bland High School in 1931 and later graduated from what is now Radford University. She taught in Bland County schools for over 34 years. For over 70 years, she was an active member of the Bastian Union Church.
She was a member of the Eastern Star #41 of Bland, the Bland Historical Society and the Retired Teachers Association, and was also a former writer of the Bastian News for the Bland Messenger.
The family will receive friends at the Bastian Union Church on Sunday from 6:00-8:00P.M. The service officiated by Rev. Dr. Chuck Starks and Pastor Paul Looney will be held at the Bastian Union Church at 2:00 P.M. Monday, April 16, 2012.
Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery near Bastian.
