Willard Looney, 83, passed on Thursday, July 26, 2018, at his home. Willard was born in Grundy, Va. and was a retired coal miner. He loved horses and riding on the Creeper Trail, spending time with his grandchildren, and spending time on the “mountain” in Buchanan County.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Merdith and Lydia Looney; son, Timothy Looney; sister, Betty Ratliff; and grandparents, Julia and John Looney.
Willard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Delphia Skeens Looney; son, Terry Looney of Glade Spring, Va.; two daughters, Debra Hawkins and husband David of Meadowview, Va., and Kathy O’Quinn and husband Jimmy of Bell, Fla.; brother, Jerry Looney and wife Anita of Grundy, Va.; sister, Ava Blackburn of Grundy, Va.; grandchildren, Jason Wachob, Randi Wachob, and Matt Snodgrass; great-grandson, Hunter Wachob; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Gary McCray officiating. A committal service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in Greenfield Baptist Church Cemetery where family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
