William A. “Bill” Webster, age 85, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at the Abingdon Health and Rehab Center. He was born to the late Robert Webster and Effie Bacon Webster on August 14, 1928 in Kingsport, TN. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard and received a Purple Heart after being wounded while serving as a Medic in the Korean War. He was the Golf Professional at Meadowview Golf Club and the first Golf Professional and Greens Keeper at the Glenrochie Country Club where he served for 32 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Theo Webster, Robert Webster, and Dick Webster; and four sisters, Ruby Davis, Sue Holt, Blanche Archer, and Pauline Webster. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Betty Jean Douglas Webster; son, Larry Webster and wife Susan of Remington, VA; daughter, Patricia Carter and husband Kevin of Springfield, VA; sister, Opal Robertson of Kingsport, TN; four grandchildren, Lindsay Webster, Matthew Rich, Kristin Campbell, and Rebecca Teel; and five great grandchildren, Meredith Cree, Leah Rich, Aaron Rich, Ethan Campbell, and Aiden Campbell. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 8th at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Steven W. Pollard officiating. A committal service will follow in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum of Forest Hills Memory Gardens where Buddy Archer, David Davis, Jeff Holt, Tony Holt, Wayne McCall, and Clayton Thompson will serve as pallbearers. Ben Able, Dr. Jim Bowden, H.E. “Pidge” Buchanan, and R.L. “Artie” Canipe will serve as honorary pallbearers.
