William B. Corcoran

d. April 10, 2013

William "Bill" Burlingame Corcoran, 81, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 10, 2013.
He was born in Mount Vernon, OH, and after high school he studied music at Otterbein College, but was soon drafted into the Army during the Korean War serving 1950-1953. After an Honorable Discharge, he graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He went on to earn an MBA from University of Akron and worked as an accountant/controller at PPG before moving to Abingdon in 1970 where he worked at Hapco until his retirement. His passions were music, computers and antiques. He was a member of the Wooster, OH symphony and several dance bands, computer systems teacher, long-time member of Bristol Concert Choir serving two years as President, former choir director and council member at St. John Lutheran Church, board member of the VA Highlands Festival, owner of Storytellers Antiques, volunteer with Friends of the Library and volunteer at Zephyr Antiques. He played the clarinet, taught piano to his three daughters, was a skilled handyman, always liked a good joke, played church-league softball, cheered on the Falcons, and loved to watch Ohio State and Tennessee football. Exceeding all of these accomplishments, though, was his never-ending love for his wonderful wife of 55 years, and his unconditional love for his three daughters and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Dennis and Amanda Burlingame Corcoran; his brother, Thomas Corcoran; his wife, Gloria Corcoran; and daughter, Carolyn Koller. He is survived by his daughters Jennifer (Tim) Bogle of Greenville, GA, and Melissa Pearson, Nashville, TN; grandchildren Jessica Dolianitis, Boone, NC, and Alex Dolianitis, Boone, NC. Sisters-in-law Carolyn (Bob) Hahn, Wadsworth, OH, and Mollie Corcoran, Raeford, NC; nephew Rob Hahn, Wadsworth, OH, and his children Robert and Nina; nieces Tara (Chuck) Wegner, Del Mar, CA, and their children Natalie, Caroline and Lillian; Mia O'Connor, Wadsworth, OH, and her children Cory, Alicia and Brianna; Candace (John) Pierce, Raeford, NC, and their children Thomas and Addison, and Courtney Corcoran, Raeford, NC.

A funeral service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, April 17th, 1:00pm, at Farris Funeral Service & Crematory, Main Street Chapel, with Pastor G. Scott Homesley officiating. Receiving of friends will be immediately after the service followed by a private interment. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
