William Bert Taylor, 86, loving father, and grandfather passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was a former employee of the old True Blue Restaurant and Empire Restaurant in Abingdon. He was veteran of the U. S. Army serving during World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Oliveen Taylor, an infant daughter, Linda Taylor, one brother, Charlie Taylor, and two sisters, Lucille Bryant and Peggy Lester.
He is survived by his sons, Charlie Taylor and wife Louise, Billy "Squeaky" Taylor, Don Taylor, and Tommy Taylor, all of Abingdon; his daughters, Susie Taylor, Kathy Otey, Betty Fields, and Jenny Ellison and husband Jack, all of Abingdon; his sisters, Bessie Orr and Ruth Roberts, both of Abingdon; his grandchildren, Jerry Otey and wife Melissa, Sabrina Nunley and husband Bob, Lisa Fields and husband Chuck, and Kathy Ann Fields, all of Abingdon; 9 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and special friends, Bill Sheets and Eula Wyatt.
The funeral service will be conducted Friday, August 14, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor Tom Musselman officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Glade Presbyterian Cemetery with military honors provided by the Highlands Veteran's Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Farris Funeral Service from 6-8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Bob Nunley, Chuck Fields, and friends of the family.
