William H. (Bill) McCall, a lifelong resident of Washington County, VA, passed away on January 6, 2023 at the age of 97.
Bill grew up in the Bethel area, but lived most of his life in Abingdon, VA. He worked for many years for Marion Bottling Co. (Pepsi), out of Bristol, VA. He worked for the Washington County Public School system in maintenance and as a school bus driver. He finally retired at age 82. He enjoyed his farm and horses. He was well known in the area as a local musician playing old-timey music in the style of Jimmie Rodgers and the Carter Family. He was a member of Abingdon Bible Church for over sixty years.
He is preceded in death by his first wife of 48 years, Chaffin R. McCall. Survivors include his wife of 5 years, Irene Moore, son Gary McCall (Jimmie Lynn) Luling, LA., daughter Judy Lutzo (Ray) Abingdon, VA., 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, and two sisters, Mary Mitchell and Esther Rhodes.
Services will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Abingdon Bible Church. Interment will be on Monday, January 9, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Bethel Presbyterian Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. Military honors will be provided by Highlands Honor Guard.
