William “Clifford” Stewart, age 83, of Abingdon, Va., went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 20, 2017, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was born to the late Thomas Eli Stewart and Cora Ann Johnson Stewart on November 7, 1933, in Sullivan County, Tenn. He owned and operated Stewart’s Plumbing for 38 years.
In addition to his parents, Clifford was also preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Lynn Stewart; brother, Bob Stewart; and a sister, JoAnn Gobble.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mattie Lee Kestner Stewart; four sons: Johnny “Jeb” Stewart; Jerry Lee Stewart; Jimmy Allen Stewart (Kathy Black); and Billy Wayne Stewart and wife, Lisa, all of Abingdon; daughter, Amy Stewart Turner and husband, Travis, of Abingdon, Va.; brother, Tommy Stewart (Donnie Pegram) of North Carolina; sister, Ella Mae Duncan and husband, Johnny, of West Virginia; eleven grandchildren: Amanda Sills; Amanda Smith; Karen George and husband, Fred; Josh Stewart and wife, Alicia; Katelyn Stewart; Maddison Stewart; Taylor Keene and husband, Cody; Will Stewart; Mattelynn Turner; Sara Kate Turner; and Zeke Stewart; five great grandchildren; and special friends, Carol Clifton and Paula Mullins.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 23, 2017, at Knollkreg Memorial Park with Rev. Jerry A. Eggers and Rev. Donald Thayer officiating. Fred George, Cody Keene, Josh Stewart, Will Stewart, Zeke Stewart, Noah Sills, Lucas Smith, and Travis Turner will serve as pallbearers. Ed Beverly, Jerry Davis, Bob Eades, Tommy Litton, Earn Lowe, Sanford Pippin, Homer Sexton, Dr. Laramie Tripplett, and Noah Wright will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Clifford’s home, 20345 Green Spring Road, Abingdon, Va. 24211, from 12:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. Sunday, October 22, 2017.
