Mr. William E. "Bill" Broyles, 92, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2011, at Johnston Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Bill was born October 4, 1919. He was a member of Byars Cobbs Memorial United Methodist Church in Glade Spring, VA. He was a World War II veteran, serving in United States Army in the European Theater and the battles of Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Austin Broyles; his wife of sixty-two years, Ann G. Broyles; three brothers: Frank, Jim and Jerry; four sisters: Virginia, Mildred, Ella and Margaret; and one granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Broyles.
Bill is survived by his son Danny Broyles and wife Donna of Glade Spring; his granddaughter, Dana Broyles-Hutton and husband Brian of Glade Spring; sister Ann Ellis of Glade Spring; sister-in-law Catherine Broyles of Abingdon; and niece Karen Swiney of Laurinburg, NC.
The family offers a special thank-you to the third floor nursing staff at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Services for Mr. William E. Broyles will be conducted Sunday, October 30, 2011, at 4:00 p.m. at Byars-Cobbs Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor Paul Griffith officiating. Burial will follow at Old Glade Presbyterian Cemetery. Military rites will be offered by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and Virginia National Guard Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Norman Boyd, Joe Coleman, Gerald Norris, Chester Poore, Mickey Smith, and Joe Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Scotty Arnold, Ronnie Bise, Charles Byrd, Leon Clarke, Rachel Keller, Herbert Vaught and Allen Stanley.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the services at the church, and friends are also welcome at the home of Danny and Donna Broyles or Dana and Brian Hutton.
