William Edward Mitchell was called home to be with his eternal family on February 25, 2010.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin G. and Elizabeth K. Mitchell, a sister, Barbara Ann Almond, an uncle, Thomas Junior Jones and nephew-in-law, Jeffrey R. Wilson.
Survivors include his sister, Peggy Jean Mitchell, Abingdon, VA, his nieces, Virginia Smith and husband James, Virginia Beach, VA, Tammie Felts and husband David, Amelia, VA, Tabitha White and husband, James, Richmond, VA, Amanda Blevins and husband Bryan, Abingdon, VA, great nieces, Holli Smith, Virginia Beach, VA, Taylor Felts, Amelia, VA great nephew Jordan Smith, Virginia Beach, VA.
His life was enriched by special friends, Norma Wright, Tommy Shultz, Wayne Houser, Willie Hudler and the McCollum family.
Mr. Mitchell served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War and served proudly with his "brothers" in active combat for the country he loved so dearly.
The funeral service will be conducted Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. A graveside service will be conducted Sunday, February 28, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Military honors will be conducted by Highlands Fellowship Veterans Honor Guard. Those attending are asked to assemble at the cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Smith, David Felts, Jr, James White III, Bryan Blevins, Emmitt Yeary, Wayne Houser, Travis Wright and Sheriff Wright..
A special thanks to the Abingdon Ambulance Service, Washington County Life Saving Crew and Hospice of Southwest Virginia, especially nurses, Naomi, Lisa, Louise and Vickie, whom all cared for him with compassion and respect

The family will receive friends Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Home.
