William H. "Bill" Smith, 84, passed away Sunday, June 10, 2012 at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Mr. Smith was born in Coeburn, VA and later moved to Abingdon where he worked at the ABC store for over 30 years. Bill was a U.S. Army Veteran and served in the Korean War. He was a member of Abingdon V.F.W Post 1994 and St. John Lutheran Church. Mr. Smith is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Howard and Myrtle Linkous Smith; his wife, Lois C. Smith; his son, William Luther Smith; and his sister, Carolyn Moore.
He is survived by two daughters: Rachel Brown of Abingdon, VA, and Jenny Bryant and husband Dennis of Abingdon, VA; four grandchildren, Josh and Cali Bryant, and Jacob and Nickolas Smith; one great-granddaughter, Matilda Bryant; and special friends, Kristie Smith and his coffee drinking buddies at Chick-N-Little Restaurant in Abingdon.
A graveside service will be held 9:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor G. Scott Homesly officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard.
