William Hassell Smith

Glade Spring, Va.

William “Bill” Hassell Smith, 67, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2017. Bill was born in Stacy, Va., but had lived in Glade Spring for a number of years. He was a man of many talents: HVAC, builder, remodeler, electrician, plumber. However, he was best known to be a loving husband, father and grandfather. Bill loved the outdoors, fishing and camping.

Bill was predeceased by his parents Stuard H. and Sophia G. Smith, and his sister Brenda Stein. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Beverly “Bev” Smith; daughters Michelle McCarthy and husband Donald of Kingsport, and Jessica Bryan and husband Allen of Bristol, Va.; grandchildren and the apples of his eye, Gannon and Darrion McCarthy and William Bryan; sister Gwen D’Antonio and husband Michael of Greenville, S.C.; sisters-in-law Barbara Tuggle and husband Joel, and Melissa Creasy and husband Tim. Bill leaves behind several special nieces and nephews and a host of friends who he loved dearly.

A memorial service for William “Bill” H. Smith will be held at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon with Pastor Roger Ball officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the chapel prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Circle of Hope, c/o Mountain States Foundation, 2335 Knob Creek Road, Suite 101, Johnson City, TN 37604.
