Abingdon, Va. – William I. Bailey passed on June 25, 2017, after a long, beautiful life. Born on September 24, 1931, to Paul and Nellie Bailey, he grew up in Lee County, Va. and after a move graduated from Middlesboro High School. Bill entered the Army during the Korean conflict and was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant. He then initiated a nearly 40-year career with the LOF glass company. A love, exceeded only by his love for family, was his love of the church where he enjoyed teaching and leading in various capacities. He was a man of great faith.
Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years. Glenda; children John (Sharon), Brian (Laura), and Sharon (Craig); eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his brother Hubert.
The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 7 p.m. in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Pastor John Bailey and Minister Ron Musick officiating. Pallbearers will be Jeff Mundy, David Mundy, Craig Mundy, Seth Bailey, Benton Bailey, and Bobby Bailey. The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. prior to the funeral in the funeral home. The committal service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with military honors conducted by the Virginia National Guard. All those wishing to attend are ask to meet at the funeral home to go in procession by 10:40 a.m. The family will accept flowers, or in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Macedonia Church of Christ, 25350 Watauga Rd., Abingdon, VA 24211.
