William Buchanan McCall

October 1, 1938 — April 17, 2025

Meadowview, VA

William “Bill” Buchanan McCall was born on October 1, 1938, to John A. McCall Sr. and Lucile McCall. He passed away at his home, on the family farm, April 17, 2025.  Bill was preceded in death by his father, John A. McCall Sr.; his mother, Lucile Buchanan McCall; two sisters, Alberta Copenhaver and Bettie Johnson; three brothers, John A. McCall Jr., Jim McCall, and Eddie McCall. Also, by Eloise Naff McCall, Sharon Presley McCall, and his infant daughter.

He is survived by his son, Ben (Beth) McCall of Blacksburg, South Carolina; daughter, Kim (Andy) Wallace of Chilhowie, Virginia; daughter, Isabella McCall of Meadowview, Virginia. Seven grandchildren, Ava (Ryan) Grubb of Chilhowie, Abbie (Michael) Stanley of Glade Spring, Luke Wallace of Chilhowie, Levi Wallace of Chilhowie, Eli Wallace of Chilhowie, Will McCall of Blacksburg, South Carolina, and Matthew McCall of Blacksburg, South Carolina; three great-grandchildren, Cassidy Grubb, Ian Stanley, and Eloise Stanley; four brothers Tom McCall, David McCall, Sam McCall, and Steve (Betty Gayle) McCall; Brenda McCall and Carolyn McCall; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Bill served in the Army, stationed in Korea. Upon returning home he held an assortment of jobs before settling in for many years at Hapco.

He was a member of Laurel Community Church for many years where he served as a Sunday school superintendent and Sunday school teacher. He was certain to instill in his children the importance of Jesus Christ and His church. In his later years, he returned to Rock Springs Presbyterian where he’d grown up.

Bill loved fishing and had many fishing buddies over the years. If he wasn’t lending a hand to a neighbor, he was fishing or dancing. He was a member of the Burly Twirlers, a square dancing group, for several years. In recent years he volunteered at the Faith in Action food bank in Abingdon, Virginia where he made many friends and loved serving his community.

The most important thing to Bill was family. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren. One of his favorite activities was sitting on his brother David’s porch enjoying the view and catching up on all the goings on in the family.

There are many stories of Bill’s shenanigans out there. He loved the stories, even if the laugh was on himself.
