Mr. William Preston Sheffield. 93, passed away Thursday, October 22, 2009, at Abingdon Manor. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Virginia. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Air Corp. Mr. Sheffield was an attorney for 58 years in Washington County.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Billie Webb Sheffield; his brother, Henry M. Sheffield; and his sister, Josephine Ridgeway. He is survived by his loving wife of thirty-three years, Lottie Sheffield; his sons: Eddie Sheffield and wife Doris of Glade Spring, and David Sheffield and wife Beth of Richmond; his brother, John Sheffield and wife Ruth; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, seven step-children, and a special friend, William Venable.
A graveside service for Mr. William Sheffield will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 24, 2009, at Old Glade Presbyterian Cemetery with Pastor Jim Beavers officiating. Pallbearers will be Eddie Sheffield, Jr., Michael Sheffield, Matthew Sheffield, Johnny Johnson, Tommy Castle and Glen Long. Those planning to attend the service may meet at the funeral home for a procession leaving at 10:30 a.m.
There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home, but friends and family are invited to visit at the home (304 Lowry Drive) anytime.
