William Samuel "Sam" Christian, Jr., 62, passed away at home on Monday, July 4, 2011 due to complications of Lou Gehrig's Disease.
He was born September 5, 1948 and was raised in Bradshaw, WV. Sam was a United States Marine Corps veteran and had also served with the Army National Guard. He led an active lifestyle, which included a passion for riding motorcycles and woodworking. He was a Master electrician; had served with the Sheriff's Department and as Chief of Police in Ames, Iowa; had worked at the Pentagon and also as a private investigator. Sam was also a member and Deacon at Abingdon Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Samuel "Bill" Christian, Sr.
Survivors include his wife, Terry Smith Christian; his mother, Evelyn Christian of Bradshaw, WV; daughters, Brandi Judkins and husband, Wayne of Webster City, IA, Kasey Abdelhadi and husband, Nasser of Roanoke, VA and Holly Stroner of Webster City, IA; two sisters, Debbie Rose and husband, Mike of White Oak, WV and Christy Visser and husband, Bill of Sioux Falls, SD; two brothers, Dave Christian and wife, Dee of Newport News, VA and Michael Christian and wife, Terri of Bristol, VA; five grandchildren, Tucker Judkins, Charlotte Judkins, Noah Abdelhadi, Noel Stroner and Emma Stroner; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Abingdon Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Steven Pollard officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Members of Highlands Veterans Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Nephews; Deacons, Ushers and members of the Harry Denton Sunday School Class at Abingdon Baptist Church; Bruce Hicks, Dave Whitledge, Perry Whitledge and Derek Jones.
Military honors will be conducted by Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and Virginia National Guard Honor Guard.
The family will be receiving friends at Farris Funeral Service from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 5, 2011.
