William Thomas “Tom” Akers, Sr., age 75, of Bristol, Va., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born February 1, 1944, to the late Coy Thomas Akers and Bertha Mae Bratton Akers in Pulaski, Va. Tom was a NASCAR fan and retired from Advance Auto Parts in Bristol.
In addition to his parents, Tom was also preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Jean Akers Cunningham.He is survived by two sons, William Thomas “Tommy” Akers, Jr. of Locust Grove, Ga. and Mark Wayne Akers of Bristol, Va.; granddaughter, Aubree Leigh Akers, who was the light of his life; five siblings: Jackie Ray Akers, Sr. and wife, B.J., of Abingdon, Va.; Patsy Ann Akers of Bristol, Va.; Larry Wayne Akers and wife, Susan, of Abingdon, Va.; Danny Garnett Akers and wife, Barbara, of Elizabethton, Tenn.; and Marie Leona Akers of Bristol, Va.; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 26, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Willis Osborne officiating. Pallbearers will be Jackie Akers, Jr., Ray Akers, James Denton, John Doss, Ray Earles, Matt French, Jamie Marshall, and James Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Barry Akers, Don Atwell, James Kiser, Steve Lovins, John Weaver, Michael Whiteworth, and Garry Worley. Visitation will be held on Tuesday at the Forest Hills Chapel from 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. prior to the graveside service.
