Glade Spring, VA – Wilma Jean Oliver Wyatt, age 89, peacefully went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Wilma was a life-long resident of Washington County and a member of High Point Baptist Church. She was a Godly woman and Bible scholar whose love of God and undying faith was evident to all who knew her. Wilma will be remembered for her service to those in need, love of cooking and beautiful violets that decorated every room. Known as “Mamaw” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was always joyful and full of laughter. She loved to joke and was an amazing storyteller. Wilma’s legacy was her love for people and God, sacrificial giving and contentment in all circumstances. She will be dearly missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy Lee Oliver and Stella Mae Rhodes Oliver; her wonderful and loving husband of 71 years, Pastor Mahlon Wyatt; and granddaughter, Jessica Wyatt. Wilma is survived by two sons, Jim Wyatt and wife Joyce of Rock Hill, SC, and Fred Wyatt and wife Betty of Bristol, VA; two brothers, James Dale Oliver and wife Patricia of Blacksburg, VA and Darius Dean Oliver and wife Sue of Abingdon, VA; four grandchildren, Shauna Sigmon, Summer Howdy, Amanda Nelson, and Emily Wyatt; eight great grandchildren, Gabrielle, Grace, Caleb, Abraham, and Mabry Sigmon, and Annabelle, Ward, and Sullivan Howdy; one expected great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family will be held 5-7 p.m., Thursday, May 14, 2015, at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Matt Sigmon, Pastor Tom Sullivan, and Dr. Charles Sherfey officiating. A committal service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pastor Robby Coggins officiating. Pallbearers will be Joe Wyatt, Wesley Wyatt, William Wyatt, Jr., Dusty Crawford, Roger Copenhaver, and Ted Lester. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Steele, Bob Anderson, Robert Phillips, Paul Rouse, Jr. and Pastor Floyd Nelson. Those wishing to attend the committal service are asked to convene at the cemetery by 11:00 a.m. The family would like to extend special thanks to the caregivers of Rock of Ages Home Health Care for the kindness and extraordinary care shown to Wilma and Mahlon.
