Worley Cecil "Popeye" Hatcher, Jr. , born June 12, 1938 in Washington County, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 12, 2011.
Cecil was a resident of Washington County all of his life. He was a retired shoe cobbler by trade and owned and operated Cecil's Saddle and Shoe Repair which was handed down by his father, Worley, Sr. and remained open until Cecil's retirement in 1991. Cecil was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Worley C. Hatcher, Sr. and Lillian A. Deckard Hatcher; siblings, Phyllis Bingham, Cornelius "C.B" Hatcher, Sr. and Judy Payne Hatcher.
Cecil is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Annie Kingrea Hatcher; four children, Cecil Hatcher of Kingsport, TN, Blake Hatcher, Jr. of Abingdon, VA, Missy Harr of Bristol, TN, and Sue Hatcher of Abingdon; six sisters, Julia Sartin and husband, Don of Piney Flats, TN, Ellen Boone and husband, Jerry of Bristol, TN, Karen Langley of Bristol, TN, Alicia Miller of Bloomingdale, GA, Nathaniel "Shorty" Hatcher and wife, Linda of Blountville, TN and David Hatcher of Bristol, TN; five grandchildren, Tiffany Hatcher, R.J. Burke, Jr., Greggory Hatcher, Andrew Hatcher and Danielle Harr; two great grandchildren, Elijah Grahm Hatcher and Jacob Ryan Burke; several nieces and nephews and many beloved friends and special friend, Howard Morrell.
A Celebration of Cecil's Life will be held at Farris Funeral Service, 427 E. Main St. Abingdon, VA at 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 16, 2011 with Pastor Paul Price officiating. The family will receive friends at Farris Funeral Service from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, send donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, as Cecil was a proud donor, or to a charity of your choice.
